On Saturday 9^th October 2010 I left Birmingham & made my way to London Gatwick where I meet the rest of the group I was travelling with. When we checked in we were upgraded to world traveller plus which was a nice start to the trip, we were flying with British Airways. On the flight there are only five rows of 2 4 2 so not many in that part of the cabin.

On arrival it didn’t take long to collect our luggage, we were met by Neil one of Amstar rep to take us to the hotel. It took about half hour & on the way he was telling us about the resort & what there is to do as well as pointing out some of the local landmarks.

First hotel Secrets St James, there was just enough time to get checked in & get a quick change before our hosted dinner at Bordeaux (the French restaurant). We was able to pick from the menu which was nice because we could all have different options & see a variety of food served instead of it being a set menu. The food was lovely. continue reading…

My second trip to the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica provided me with what turned out to be an immensely unique experience; not only would I be presented with the opportunity of sampling the delights of the world famous Sandals resorts, but as an added bonus I would then go on to spend a further week in the luxurious company of Secrets.

What made this experience so particularly unique is that Sandals Whitehouse is widely regarded to represent the ‘traditional Caribbean’ whereas Secrets Wild Orchid very much so gives an insight into the modern and contemporary approach that Jamaica is now moving towards. So not only would I be guaranteed to be spending two weeks in what is quintessentially paradise, but given an ideal opportunity to compare and contrast what these 5* resorts (adults only) have to offer.

I boarded the plane at London Gatwick on June 13th 2010 for my first trip back to Dominican Republic since my wedding way back in 1996. After a long flight I was not really looking forward to arriving into Punta Cana and having to wait for long periods of time at the airport. I was pleasantly surprised, we arrived at the same time as 3 other flights and they all seemed to be feeding into 2 queues. We got past the photos with the Dominican girls and expected to be waiting for about 2 hours. The queue went down really fast and within 20 minutes we had our visas and gone through a very friendly immigration. Our cases were there waiting for us once we arrived at the baggage carousel.
