Honeymoon Diary – Part 2: The Aftermath

The Engagement Party

Chris & LizAs with most couples our parents weren’t going to let this moment pass without a party and what a day we had. Friends, family, work colleagues (of both of us) were all in attendance for what (possibly inevitably) turned out to be an all day party.

Fortunately the weather held for us (not guaranteed in the UK at the end of August) and we were able to use not only the house but overflowed into the garden until the early hours.

Thankfully neither of us had to work on the Sunday as only a couple of hours sleep doesn’t do anyone any good on a “school night”! continue reading…

The Proposal

The Proposal

OK, so let me set the picture for you…

It’s a beautiful warm summer’s day in rural Staffordshire, Liz and I are on our first weekend off together for 6 weeks and we’re sat in the garden of a spa retreat with a couple of ice cold beers waiting for lunch to arrive, and then it happened, 2 simple sentences that would ensure that the next 12 months were going to be some of the most complicated of my life…

Steph’s Mexico Holiday Sept 2011

Dreams Riviera Cancun

5th – 7th September

Steph at Dreams Riviera Cancun

Steph at Dreams Riviera Cancun

After a long but pleasant flight with Thomas Cook we arrived at Cancun airport at 2pm, we were greeted by Jumbo Tours and were taken to our first resort, Dreams Riviera Cancun. Upon arrival our luggage was taken care of and we went to the reception area to check in. The reception was breathtaking and we were amazed at the outlook all the way down to the sea.

We were directed to our room, which had a very authentic & stylish feel with an inside Jacuzzi and a balcony with an amazing view of the garden and sea.

Once at the room we rested for an hour then decided to have a walk around the hotel. We had a look around the pool and ended up on the beach; everywhere was immaculately clean, the white sand beach and the turquoise blue sea were beautiful. When the sun had gone down we retired to our room to shower and dress to dine out.

Marie’s Mexico Holiday June 2011

June 15th

Dreams Riviera Cancun

After a very comfortable flight we arrived into Cancun airport at around 1.30 pm, we were met by Jumbo Tours outside for a swift journey to the Dreams Riviera Cancun where we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a refreshing cold towel. After a prompt check in we decided to have a couple of refreshing drinks at the lobby bar whilst our cases were taken to the room. We then arrived at our room which was a Deluxe Tropical View, the room was very spacious and well laid out and we had a furnished balcony overlooking the very well kept gardens. We had a quick freshen up and decided to investigate the hotel which had numerous swimming pools, a lovely beach and had a fabulous choice of restaurants. That evening we felt extremely tired and opted for room service which was very quick (around 30 minutes) and the food was very good and then an early night.

Wedding Gazebo at Dreams Riviera Cancun

After waking up very refreshed we went for breakfast at the World Cafe; there was a wide variety of foods to choose from and even champagne which went down a treat. At around 12pm we met up with the Jumbo Tours rep Alberto who was very pleasant and very helpful and sorted out a deep sea fishing trip for my husband and went out of his way to help with other things. The rest of the day was spent lazing down on the beach where there was a waiter on hand to serve you drinks when required. Later that day we met with Cintia who was the Sales manager for the hotel where we carried out a site inspection, she was very helpful and showed us around all the different room categories which were very impressive and the wide choice of restaurants, there was something to suit all palettes, our favourite was the Mexican, (El Patio) the decor in the restaurant was fabulous and the atmosphere with the mariachi band playing just put the icing on the cake. continue reading…
