Excellence cocktails

We touched down in Punta Cana in the late afternoon after a smooth flight from Manchester on Thomas Cook Airlines. We were welcomed by bright colours, traditional Merengue dancers and beautiful music – a real Caribbean ambience. This being my first visit to the Dominican I was extremely excited at the prospect of staying here for two weeks. We collected our luggage and made our way to our private transfer provided by VIP Tours. The VIP representatives were very helpful and escorted us to our transfer straight away. The private transfer was much more comfortable as we were able to travel to our resort directly without the hassle of dropping off other passengers at different hotels.

We arrived at Excellence Punta Cana a mere 40 minutes later and we were greeted by an inviting smile, an ice cold glass of champagne and a cool flannel; which I must say after an 8 an a half hour flight was perfect! We were then taken to our own private check in, in the Excellence Club area of the hotel where we were also given a short tour of the Excellence club facilities. Being a part of the Excellence club allowed us direct access to the executive lounge, which hosted a relaxing environment to enjoy a variety of refreshments throughout the day, as well as unlimited access to the internet and satellite television. continue reading…

I boarded the plane at London Gatwick on June 13th 2010 for my first trip back to Dominican Republic since my wedding way back in 1996. After a long flight I was not really looking forward to arriving into Punta Cana and having to wait for long periods of time at the airport. I was pleasantly surprised, we arrived at the same time as 3 other flights and they all seemed to be feeding into 2 queues. We got past the photos with the Dominican girls and expected to be waiting for about 2 hours. The queue went down really fast and within 20 minutes we had our visas and gone through a very friendly immigration. Our cases were there waiting for us once we arrived at the baggage carousel. Accommodation

During our stay at Excellence Punta Cana, we were accommodated in a Junior Suite, which was extremely spacious, even with two double beds! The rooms had a very traditional Caribbean feel with the dark wood on the roof, and pale wood on the furniture around the room. There was also plenty of storage space around the room with a very good size wardrobe. I would definitely say the rooms was of a 5* standard, especially with the double Jacuzzi which made it feel very luxurious. continue reading…

Hotel & Room

We stayed in a Deluxe Room which had two sizeable double beds. It was evident the room had been recently been refurbished and the use of bright colours helped create a fine, bright ambiance. The modern air conditioning unit had it’s own remote control which enabled us to set the room temperature to that which most suited us.

The amenities were typical of a 5* property and included satellite tv, CD/DVD player, i-pod docking station, coffee maker hairdryer etc. There we even bathrobes & slippers ! Room service is provided 24 hours per day

The mini-bar, which was re-stocked on a regular basis, contained beers, soft drinks and bottled water.

My wife was very pleased to find a hairdryer in the room. Even though she had taken her own with her, the low voltage in Dominican Republic meant it would not work to it’s full potential.
